Yoga

for Equestrians

Now offering programs for riders of all levels, ages and disciplines, as well as mindfulness programs for anyone interested in exploring the magic and majesty of the horse.

Why Yoga?- how will yoga help my riding?

for the body -

yoga asana (postures) build strength, increase flexibility and bring balance to the body. Asana along with mindfulness techniques increase body awareness, riders can learn to “undo” detrimental habits, bringing greater harmony and fluidity to their riding and partnership with their horses.

with practice you can expect -

  • greater core strength/alignment

  • greater hip, shoulder and low back mobility

  • symmetry between the left and right sides

  • greater ability to isolate body parts (becoming more proficient with aides)

  • growing ability to relax while remaining stable and steady in the saddle

for the mind -

pranayama (breathing techniques) can be done mounted or unmounted and can instantaneously calm, center and/or balance the nervous system. Meditation and mindfulness techniques improve cognition and calm the mind.

with practice you can expect -

  • growing ability to recognize negative thought narratives and have the tools to change them

  • reduced anxiety

  • better comprehension of riding theory

  • easier/quicker ability to remember courses/dressage tests (learn meditation/visualization techniques)

for the spirit - yoga puts you in touch with all aspects of self (body/mind and spirit). Soon, you will begin to recognize your own energy body and the energy in all living things. Quite simply, yoga helps us to remember the brilliance of the soul. With that knowing, there are no limits.

  • feel more connected to your horse

  • develop sensitivity to and honor for all aspects of yourself (body, mind, soul)

  • recognize and honor the unique spirit of your horse

  • realize the profound history of the horse/human relationship and bring that knowing into your relationship with your own horse and all horses
